Health & Safety

“Prioritising Safety in Every Step”

At The Nursery & School Renovation Company, health and safety is at the core of everything we do. Working in environments with children, staff, and families requires the highest level of care—and we deliver just that. All our team members are fully DBS-checked and trained in safeguarding protocols, with site-specific risk assessments carried out before every project begins.

We strictly adhere to all relevant UK health and safety legislation, including CDM regulations, and we follow robust site management procedures to minimise disruption and maintain a safe, controlled working environment. Our staff hold relevant certifications such as CSCS, SMSTS, and First Aid at Work, and we maintain full compliance with industry standards through our membership with the Federation of Master Builders (FMB).

From dust control to secure site boundaries, we leave nothing to chance—because protecting the wellbeing of children, staff, and our own team is non-negotiable.

Introduction

This Health & Safety Policy Plan sets out our approach to managing health and safety on all our projects, including those involving nursery and school environments. It supports and complements our overarching Health and Safety Policy and reflects our core belief that safety is not negotiable.

We understand the unique risks involved in working within education settings and commit to managing those risks proactively, ethically, and legally. Our aim is to create a culture of safety that protects our staff, contractors, clients, and the children and staff at the schools and nurseries where we work.

Our Health & Safety Aims

We aim to:

  • Avoid accidents and protect people’s health—we never cut corners on safety to save time or money.
  • Ensure health and safety is treated with equal importance as all other key business objectives.
  • Always follow documented safe systems of work.
  • Avoid purchasing or using unsafe tools, products, or materials.
  • Work to legal health and safety requirements as a minimum standard.
  • Insist on high safety standards when working with subcontractors or suppliers.
  • Pursue continuous improvement in our health and safety performance.

How We Will Achieve These Aims

We will always:

  1. Include health and safety in all planning activities, regardless of project size or scope.
  2. Identify hazards on all sites and carry out risk assessments to ensure that control measures are effective and updated as necessary.
  3. Set measurable safety standards and targets, each with specific implementation dates.
  4. Monitor performance regularly—using site inspections, audits, and staff feedback—to assess our compliance with health and safety goals.
  5. Report and record all accidents and incidents, and thoroughly investigate each to understand root causes and prevent recurrence.
  6. Consult employees, contractors, and relevant stakeholders on potential health and safety issues and improvement measures.
  7. Communicate all relevant health and safety information to staff, subcontractors, and site visitors in a timely and clear manner.
  8. Provide appropriate training for all employees to help them understand and fulfil their safety responsibilities.
  9. Seek competent advice from external safety professionals when specialist knowledge is needed.
  10. Meet all legal welfare obligations on our sites, including clean welfare facilities, first aid provision, fire safety precautions, and employer’s liability insurance.
  11. Conduct quarterly reviews of our health and safety performance, document findings, and set new improvement targets where needed.

Responsibility

  • The Company Directors hold overall responsibility for ensuring this policy plan is implemented and reviewed.
  • Site Managers and Supervisors are responsible for the day-to-day execution of health and safety controls.
  • All employees and contractors are required to co-operate with this policy plan, take personal responsibility for their safety and that of others, and report any concerns immediately.

Review and Transparency

This policy is reviewed annually or sooner if significant changes occur in evolving legislation, working practices, or as a result of an incident.
