Brooklands Play Area – A Natural, Woodland-Inspired Playscape

The Brooklands Play Area project offered The Nursery & School Renovation Company a perfect opportunity to showcase our passion and expertise for designing natural, immersive outdoor play environments. Set within a picturesque woodland park, the brief called for a playground that delivered excitement, challenge, and adventure—while blending harmoniously with the surrounding landscape.

To achieve this, our team developed a playscape centred on natural materials, organic forms, and earthy tones. The space features a range of engaging play elements, including climbing ropes, balance logs, log-climber teepees, mini springers, and rustic timber seating. Each component was carefully selected and crafted to reflect the textures and shapes found in nature, ensuring the play area feels like an extension of the woodland itself rather than something imposed upon it.

Play-grade bark chips were used as the primary ground surface, not only for their safety and durability but also for their ability to contribute to the natural aesthetic. This choice helps maintain the area’s rustic charm and preserves the sense of immersion that visitors experience throughout the wider nature park.

The resulting play area delivers all the fun, activity, and developmental benefits expected from a high-quality playground, while also respecting the beauty and tranquillity of its surroundings. By avoiding artificial colours and synthetic-looking equipment, the space allows children to explore, play, and imagine in an environment that feels rooted in nature—encouraging a deeper connection to the outdoors.
